Artist Bio
After losing part of my vision, I grew concerned about artwork that might not come into being. Post surgeries, I became more prolific.I originally learned to paint in High School, and sold my 1st painting shortly after graduating. I was dissuaded from going to art school, or school in general. When I did go, independantly, I had an arts minor and many art and art adjacent classes in graduate school. I believe that art is transformative to both the artist and the viewer. My experiences of being a woman, living with a disability, and others, color my lense, my work, and my energy. I think of art as language more far reaching than words. In addition to group and solo shows my work has been used by organizations, in print, and in philanthropic activities.
Materials and Techniques: I work primarily in acrylics and oils, but trying new mediums keep me inspired, as does community. Metalics are often incorporated into my works. My focus in portraits is on people who might remain unseen in everyday life. When I returned to painting, I decided to challenge myself with portraits, both stylized and realistic. Portraits are very exacting and intense. To take a break from them, I began creating more abstract work and using mark making and intuative work and love both.
