Julie Murphy is an artist and art educator working in Boston and living in Somerville. Her style is mixed media, incorporating wire, wax, metallic fibers, paint and found objects. The themes she explores are the natural world, bodies and the idea of embodiment, trees and roots, journeys, healing and interconnection. Her work is created to foster interpersonal connections, spark introspection and to depict a variety of human experience. In addition to working at her kitchen table studio, Julie is an art teacher who teaches art classes to children at Hill House Community Center and the Advent School in Beacon Hill and she recently participated in Somerville Open Studios. Julie has a B.A. from Framingham State College in Studio Art and spent her early years drawing and dreaming on the North Shore.
