Artist Bio
Irene and Jonas are an artist couple residing together in Massachusetts, with their two children. They both obtained their B.F.A ‘s in Illustration from The Kansas City Art Institute where they met. Since then they have continued to work in traditional analog practices of drawing, while also working with digital methods as a means to integrate and facilitate family life and art life. The subject matter of the work is mostly nature based, animals and landscapes. Jonas strays into figurative pieces and some science fiction, fantasy inspired matter.
Materials and Techniques: Jonas and I were trained traditionally in Illustration. As a result our work starts in those practices. Drawing first, we work in steps, at times generating multiple pen and ink drawings separately before digitally combining them. We then continue to work on the artwork adding color and textures using graphic arts software. We now also use the ipad pro and can draw directly into the ipad with the apple pencil, there a whole artwork can be made. The final artwork exists as a digital image. Physical pieces are printed as limited edition digital fine art inkjet prints, which we print ourselves on our 24in wide professional 12 color cannon pro, on archival cotton rag 300gsm, and with archival inks. Some of our other prints are hand printed limited edition silkscreen prints. We also incorporate original paintings, drawings and framed prints into our offerings. All of the frames we use for our artwork start unfinished and then are customized with paint or stain to compliment the artwork.
Jonas’s work is expressive with a focus on line, and texture. He employs paint brushes, tooth brushes, and brayers to create naturalistic textures to embed digitally in his drawings.
