Arlene was born and raised in New York City. She is primarily self-taught and has studied with many artists in New York City, Vermont, Philadelphia, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. She is adept at both oil and watercolor painting.
Arlene’s most recent attempt to express her art is through painting with oils on self-prepared watercolor paper. Rich myriad shades of color come together with the use of brushes and palette knives to compose simple, suggestive, enchanting landscapes with emphasis on the contrast of light and shadow.
Arlene’s work is represented in private and corporate collections. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions including prestigious juried shows. She has received recognition in shows juried by the Currier Museum of Art, the New Hampshire Art Association, the Essex Art Center, Arts Around Boston, the Whistler House Museum of Art, the Kimball-Jenkins Estate, N.H., and the Andovers Artist Guild. She was co- chair of United South End Artists in Boston from November, 2010 – November, 2013 and continues to be an active Board Member of USEA. Her work is represented at Artists Crossing Gallery in Downtown Crossing, Boston.
Whether it is an old growth forest, backstage at a dance performance, a city scene in spring or a deserted beach at dusk, Arlene’s intention is to draw the viewer into the moment by capturing a mood through her lively brushwork and expressive, bold color.
