Established in 2007, the Boston Public Quartet (BPQ) serves as the resident ensemble and directing team of the non-profit organization musiConnects. You may hear the BPQ in a variety of venues – in a traditional concert hall, a cafe, a home, a rehabilitation clinic, a community center, a place of worship, or in a library. Most often you will find them inspiring young musicians at the Chittick and Sumner Elementary Schools, where they work to provide free string instruments and holistic, long-term musical instruction to over 60 students.

The BPQ is driven by three convictions:
– A string quartet’s mission is to explore a wide range of perspectives, address complex challenges, and create new possibilities – in music and in everyday life.
– Music education and live music are a right for all, not a privilege for a few.
– As a core part of a music curriculum, chamber music offers students unique opportunities for development in the areas of leadership, collaboration, and communication.

The BPQ was honored perform for Kennedy Center’s free concert series on Millennium Stage this past April in remembrance of the victims of the Marathon bombings. Since 2012, they have served as Resident Artists in Community at Celebrity Series of Boston where their educational presentations and free performances have reached over a thousand children and their families.
