Artist Bio
I am a self-taught artist with a passion for paper and a photographer. Following personal events, I found myself looking at abundant family pictures and lots of memories came back. My Dad in his workshop, he was a very skilled worker in wood and iron. My mother, once retired, became a talented lacemaker. My grandmother was very good at embroidery, often asking my cousin to draw some motif for her, and I can still see her working on her beautiful tablecloth. My great grandparents, Albert and Lucie, were also in the lace industry, making embroidery, patterns and lace that are still in our family. Suddenly I was stuck by the fact that my family was a family of artists. Not the kind of artists you find in galleries, they had to have a regular job, but nevertheless artists on their own. They were creating things using texture, colors, and shape that they enjoyed making and they shared their creations to others. And there was me, having worked for many years with paper, paper collage, paper mâché, sculptures in paper, folded paper. Paper is a material so humble and versatile that a creative eye can transform it into something surprising and wonderful. It then came together. I would add thread, embroidery stiches, use some kind of lace patterns maybe, beads, make new stuff, keep the family tradition in my own way.
Materials and Techniques: Including texture to a picture came as a natural way.
Now, adding stitches and embroidery, beads, to a photography or a picture is a way to keep memories alive, but the process can also reveal another meaning of the picture and give it a new dimension in a joyful and/or mystery way.
